  About this page (below)
Most of the (.JPG) photographs on this CD were taken by Tony Thompson who joined the LCRA in 1960 – so it is a narrow focus on the LCRA’s rambles and activities. (This is the final issue of the compilation.)

In December 1965 he went to work in East Africa Kenya and was joined in Feb 1966 by Marcia Plummer whom he had met in the LCRA Brownlow Hill rooms and on rambles during Dec 1965. They were married in the Holy Family Cathedral Nairobi on the 19th February 1966. They lived in Africa for some years. This partly explains the gap in the rambling photographs, on this disc, between the late 60s and 80s.

It was in the 1960’s that the LCRA started regular walking holidays abroad - sometimes with the Newcastle Catholic Ramblers – this CD features a visit to Austria and the Italian Dolomites. The tradition has continued as Dave Newns reports in the 21st century LCRA Newsletter.

The source photographs on this CD were mainly Kodachrome 35mm Colour Slides that were scanned into a computer in 2005. John Burns took most of the monochrome images. Ed Quinn recorded the 2007 LCRA 80th Anniversary event and Joe Kennedy with John Peloe have a folder too. The later years relate mainly to the Seniors Section of the LCRA.

From 2004 onwards the images were taken with digital cameras, something that could not be imagined forty years ago, or the storing of hundreds of photographs on this CD laser etched disc.

Enjoy this nostalgia trip

(The first presentation of these photographs was on 9th March 2005 in Formby and used PowerPoint software and a Sony Vaio Laptop computer - (FS 195XP) and an INFOCUS digital projector. Venue Shorrocks Hill Country Club.)
